2021: Twenty Days and Counting

Happy New Year one and all! Yes, it’s been a while since I’ve disgraced this blog with my presence, but it’s time to scribble something off while it’s fresh on my mind. A lot has happened since my last entry – some good, some not – but it’s time people start using their brains again in this new year and I have some food for thought for your poor beleaguered think-muscles.

As I am tapping this out on my Mac, there are twenty days until someone who had no business being near the seat of power in this country will finally be expunged from the White House. Yes, yes, he’s going to go down kicking and screaming and crying, aided and abetted in his efforts by every spineless opportunistic Republican who can’t summon the courage to tell an ill-informed, misinformed, and racist constituency that he lost the election and there was no voting fraud. (Racist? you say, clutching at some conveniently available pearls.  How dare you!) Oh, I dare, dear hearts, because I’m pulling no punches and the damn truth will be told! And the truth is something you don’t want to hear…

I recall someone stupidly suggesting, one time, that America needs a businessman to be president and run the country like a CEO. Well, if anything should be more than obvious by now, it’s that Trump is a lousy businessman – and a worse excuse for a president. It should also be apparent to anyone (except those who stupidly voted for him a second time) that America is not a business and the president is not a CEO. A CEO is beholden to stockholders, the president is beholden to the people… or no one, if you think like Trump. Yet, as I said, Trump lost the election, despite what lies he tells, and will be removed one way or the other. And it’s this “one way or the other” that I want to talk about.

And that leads me to the Second Amendment.

I tried to address the Second Amendment one time previously and I just wasn’t satisfied with what it said (or the way it was said, perhaps?). I think I have the insight now that I was looking for then and I’m sure it will raise the hackles of every “true-blooded, American patriot” who will never read this blog. Yeah, that was sarcasm because the people I’m referring to are the furthest thing from patriotic that there is. I could go on, but…

As one of my younger brothers pronounced to me one time, the Second Amendment was created to ensure the citizens could fight against a tyrannical government. They had just fought against England and didn’t want to allow that to happen again. Or something to that effect. At any rate, the purpose of the Second Amendment – and you can read all about it in the Federalist Papers – was, indeed, to provide for a means to combat a tyrannical government… that government that we elected. At least, that’s what they told us way back in 1787. Whether they realized it or not, they lied to us.

I told my brother that if this “tyrannical” government has the support of the military, a military that was put into place to defend us from any and all threats with the most sophisticated weaponry this planet has ever seen (and no citizen possesses), then overthrowing this government would be a suicidal gesture. The best and only chance a rebelling citizenry would have is if the military refused to fight them. So much for that ol’ Second Amendment, right? No, there’s more to it and here’s where the lie comes in: the Second Amendment was not a means to fight the government, it was a means for us to fight each other! And we can see this playing out with Trump. His entire term was little more than setting up the “us vs. them” scenario, sowing division and discord between those who could see the grift and those who were taken in.

If you don’t believe me (and why should you, you’re just reading my blog? Read more of it – I dare you!), then consider this: if the armed citizenry of this country managed to kill all 535 members of Congress, wiped out the Cabinet, and even took out the President and Vice-President, do you think that, voila!, you have a new government? Of course not! You would have a faction of people who liked the government, another faction of people who want something new, maybe something radical, something dangerous, maybe even unconstitutional. And then you would also have the people who are going to sit on the sidelines and see how it plays out. But you don’t have a new government. If the bullets have already started flying, chances are that they will keep flying and you have yourself a civil war.  That’s what the Second Amendment sets up: we can arm ourselves against each other because change won’t happen without the blood of patriots being spilled on the Tree of Liberty or some such rot like that.

It’s time for this country to get its collective head out of its ass because if it doesn’t, it’s going to tear itself apart and there are bad actors out there just waiting to pick the corpse clean. Trump lost, get over it and stop the childish whining and conspiratorial nonsense. Get a better serious candidate next time and realize that’s there’s more to life than pissing off the libs.
